| Fashion is an art reflecting life. From time to time we hear the names of Christian Dior, Pierre Cardin, Givenchy, Giorgio Armani etc. There fashion designers influence our hair styles, what we wear, the way we put on makeup and even behave. Every season designers determine our choices of clothing. There are several very crucial events in the fashion calendar known as fashion weeks. Fashion weeks are organized each season for fashion houses to exhibit their latest collections in runway shows and for fashion to take a look at the latest fashions. Most importantly, they exhibit the fashion industry what is in and what is out for the season. The most impressive fashion weeks are organized in the fashion capitals, including Milan, London, New York and Paris where luxury clothes (also known as haute couture) are displayed. Haute Couture is a French phrase for expensive and fashionable clothes designed for women. Couture denotes dressmaking, sewing, or needlework, whereas haute stands for elegant. Haute couture items are made for a particular customer from high-quality, expensive fabrics and sewed by hand usually deploying time-consuming techniques. This is why, couture items are luxurious and exclusive. Depending on the haute couture and the garment, the price of a couture item runs from $10, 000 for a blouse to $40, 000 and often beyond that figure. The cost includes payments for the service, work, originality of a unique design and premium-class fabrics of the finest quality. Furthermore, every client will receive a garment to fit them ideally. It takes approximately 100-150 hours to create a handmade luxuty suit and up to 1000 hours for an embroidered evening dress with thousands of beads sewed by hand. A fashion house like Chanel, for instance, will have around 150 regular clients ordering luxury garments, and a couture house like Dior will make about 20 luxury wedding dresses yearly Couture houses use only expensive luxurious materials, including expensive silks, fine wools, cashmeres, cottons, linens, leather, suede and furs. Along with clothes, famous couture houses make exclusive luxurious accessories, such as hats, buttons, belts, jewelry, footwear, handbags. Those who can afford couture items are happy to pay for exclusivity and the privacy offered by the system. |
